On January 15th I wrote about the value of a local municipal office as a public platform from which to advocate. I also noted that many municipal offices go uncontested and therefore offer unique opportunities for the dedicated animal advocate to win election to offices such as borough council, township supervisor, auditor or school director.
It is neither difficult nor expensive to wage a local campaign for many municipal offices. A good primer for campaigning for office can be found here on the state website. Although you may want to enlist a few friends to help you obtain signatures on nominating petitions, and to carry your message forward, for a low-budget local office it is not necessary to go through the process of establishing a formal campaign committee.
